Accessibility statement
Software by Design GbR is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible. This statement applies to all language versions of the documentation site published under this domain.
Statement prepared on 11 May 2026, based on a self-evaluation.
Conformance status
This website targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We consider this site to be largely conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. "Largely conformant" means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the standard — see the section below.
Measures taken
- Semantic HTML 5 throughout (
header, nav, main, section, article, footer). - Skip-to-content link as the first focusable element.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element (
:focus-visible). - Logical heading order; one
h1per page. - Colour contrast meets WCAG 2.1 AA in light and dark mode.
- Site supports both light and dark colour schemes via
prefers-color-scheme. - Layout is responsive from 320 px upwards.
- Images have descriptive
alttext or are marked decorative (aria-hidden="true"). - Mobile navigation is keyboard-operable, follows ARIA "disclosure" pattern, and closes with Esc.
- The screenshot lightbox is keyboard-operable, traps focus, closes with Esc, and supports ← / → to move between images in a gallery.
- App and paid-service cards on the home and about pages are single native links: the whole card is clickable, and the accessible name comes from the heading inside the link (WCAG 2.4.4, 2.4.7, 2.5.3).
- Where a second destination is required (e.g. GitHub Sponsors on the about page), it appears as a footer bar on the same card block — separate from the main card link, so there are no nested interactive elements.
- Card links use native
<a href>elements (not JavaScript-only click handlers), so they work without script and are counted by analytics link tracking. - Animations respect
prefers-reduced-motion: reduce. - The site works without JavaScript: only the mobile menu toggle, the header language menu, and the lightbox require JS; content remains fully readable without it, and language versions stay reachable via the footer links.
- No autoplay media, no carousels, no time-limited interactions.
- Each language version is correctly declared via
lang; alternate language is announced viahreflang.
Non-accessible content / known limitations
We are aware of the following limitations and are working on them:
- Screenshots of the apps are pixel images and therefore cannot be read by assistive technologies; we provide a textual description for each screenshot. A more detailed long-description is planned for selected views.
- Some external resources we link to (e.g. apps.nextcloud.com, GitHub) may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. We have no influence on the accessibility of third-party sites.
Compatibility
This website is designed to work in current versions of the major browsers — Firefox, Chrome / Chromium-based browsers, Safari, and Edge — as well as with common screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack) and operating-system zoom and high-contrast settings.
Technical specifications
- HTML 5
- WAI-ARIA where it adds meaning beyond plain HTML
- CSS (with progressive enhancement; no critical content is CSS-dependent)
- A small amount of vanilla JavaScript (mobile menu, language menu, lightbox)
