1. Scope
This policy describes the AudioCheck mobile app (Android and iOS). The app is a client for the open-source AudioCheck Nextcloud app, which runs on your organisation’s (or your own) Nextcloud server.
Software by Design does not operate a central cloud that stores your audiobooks, music, or listening history. The server you connect to is operated by you or your organisation.
2. Who is responsible for your data?
| Data location | Controller (typical) |
|---|---|
| Library files, playlists, listening progress on the server | You or your organisation as operator of Nextcloud |
| App on your device (credentials, offline downloads, settings) | You choose the server; server privacy policy applies to server data |
| Publisher of the mobile app | Software by Design GbR (this policy) |
3. What the app stores on your device
| Data | Purpose | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Server URL and last-used server | Connect to your Nextcloud | App storage |
| Nextcloud app password (not your main password) | API access after Login Flow v2 | Secure storage (Keychain / Keystore) |
| Offline downloads of audio files you choose | Playback without network | App-private storage on device |
| Local cache of library metadata / progress | Faster UI and offline continuity | App storage |
| Theme, language, download preferences, biometric lock | Settings | App storage |
The app does not store your main Nextcloud account password.
4. What is sent to your Nextcloud server
The app communicates only with the server URL you configured, including library browse/sync, streaming and downloads, playlists, listening progress, and playback preferences stored on the server.
Production builds use HTTPS.
5. What we do not do
- No sale of personal data
- No third-party advertising or analytics SDKs
- No transfer of your audio library or listening history to Software by Design servers
- No profiling or marketing by the app publisher
6. Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet | Connect to your Nextcloud; stream and download audio |
| Notifications / foreground service | Media controls and background playback / downloads |
| Biometric / fingerprint | Optional unlock for saved credentials |
| Battery optimisation (Android, optional) | Reliable background playback when you allow it |
7. Deletion
- Sign out removes offline downloads for that account on this device; server library and progress stay unchanged.
- Uninstall removes all app data on the device, including login and downloads.
- Server-side library and progress are controlled by your Nextcloud administrator (or you, if self-hosted).
8. Your rights (GDPR)
For data on your server, contact the server operator. For questions about this mobile app, contact datenschutz@software-by-design.de.
Supervisory authority (Germany): the data protection authority for your place of residence or work.
9. Children
The app is a general-purpose media client for Nextcloud. It is not directed at children under 16.
10. Changes
We may update this policy when the app changes. The “Last updated” date will change accordingly.
11. Open source
